Advocacy

The Association des professionnels de l’édition musicale (APEM) advocates with all decision makers (political, administrative or other) on issues of interest for its members. Our association is actively involved in the creation of a viable ecosystem for our music. Fair compensation for publishers, and therefore for the songwriters and the composers they represent, is fundamental to us, as are the development of our culture and the respect of everyone’s rights. Support programs for music publishing are also at the forefront of our concerns.

We are actively concerned about the revision of the Canadian Copyright Act, the Broadcasting Act and CRTC regulation,  collective rights management, the certification of tariffs by the Copyright Board and many other issues. APEM also makes sure to be represented and visible in the most strategic forums.APEM is a member of various groups and organizations including the International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI), the Association des juristes pour l’avancement de la vie artistique (AJAVA), the International Confederation of Music Publishers (CIEM-ICMP), the Coalition des ayants droits musicaux sur Internet (CAMI), the Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (CDEC-CDCE), the Canadian Music Policy Coalition (CMPC), Compétence culture, the Comité consultatif arts/scène de l’Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec (OCCQ), Culture Montréal and the Institut national de l’image et du son (INIS).
